So why all the hype about green tripe?

So what makes green tripe the perfect food for dogs and cats?

Green tripe is the stomach meat of cow, bison, or lamb, and the greens they have eaten, all in one miracle food. The perfect combination of high quality protein and green vegetation, rich in natural nutrition that you just can't get from baked kibble and other cooked, over-processed foods.

The calcium:phosphorous ratio is 1:1, the overall pH is on the acidic side which is better for digestion, protein is 15.1, fat 11.7 and it contains the essential fatty acids in ideal proportions.

The photo below is of real raw green tripe - viewer discretion is advised! This stuff really is extremely difficult for most pet owners to deal with when it's in a raw or even canned state. It is very rubbery in texture, making it hard to cut even with the sharpest knife. It is full of raw meat bacteria, which can end up all over your kitchen when you are trying to prepare healthy meals for your cat and dog. Plus it stinks! For years, pet owners have been wanting to do the right thing by feeding tripe to their pets, but have been struggling with finding a better way to give their pet the nutritional benefits without the inconvenience of stinky dirty raw meat.

That's why more and more people are loving our dried tripe products!

Our dried green tripe products are dehydrated, not boiled. They maintain all the natural healthy goodness, but in an easy-to-feed format, which also keeps your pet and your home cleaner too! (Note: the canned tripe products are cooked, as part of the canning process).

This is raw green tripe. It is a dark, blackish green colour, and smells like a barnyard. This is not for human consumption - the tripe that is in restaurants and exotic recipies is fully cleaned, bleached white meat.

Unlike pieces of raw meat, our products won't spill bacteria out of your pet's dish (or worse, be dragged off by the cat who likes to eat his raw meat meals on your white dining room carpet). Those dark raw tripe stains on light coloured carpet are nearly impossible to get out!

If you own a coated breed, pieces of raw meat won't get stuck in your pet's fuzzy beard. Dried tripe is much more convenient in every way!

What many people don't realize about this miracle food, is that because it is beef, lamb, or buffalo stomach lining, it contains lactic acid bacteria, also known as Lactobacillus Acidophilus, which is the "good" intestinal bacteria. It is the main ingredient in probiotics.

Green tripe is loaded with gastric enzymes, amino acids, and other gastric juices. The gastric enzymes not only help the cow in digestion, but also aid the dogs and cats who eat tripe in digesting and efficiently utilizing their food. Tripe has also been linked to reduced instances of bloat (fatal stomach twisting) in large and giant breed dogs. The amino acids are necessary for muscular development, and the other gastric juices are the best cleaner for teeth!

Green tripe is the ultimate food, and our dried tripe products are the only kind of supplement your pet needs!

Can my animal get salmonella or E-coli from eating meat or meat supplements?

Dogs have an acidic stomach (pH level of >1) - not bacteria-friendly. Salmonella bacteria need a pH level of at least 4 (or higher) to grow, with the most growth of bacteria occuring at a pH level of  6.5-7.5. Also, the length of a dog's digestive tract is 3-4m (much shorter than our 8-9m digestive tracts) which allows a shorter timeframe between mealtime and bowel movement. The shorter the time spent in the system, the less likely it is that salmonella can break through the gastrointestinal wall and make the dog ill. Not to say the dogs don't have salmonella bacteria in their systems, but it does not affect them the same way it affects people. But when eating raw meat, the bacteria can be on their faces, in their fuzzy beard, or on their paws, which can put your family at risk if they hug or kiss your pet just after meal time!

And a little bit about carbs and digestion: We humans have an enzyme in our saliva which starts digesting carbohydrates as soon as we start chewing (and we love our carbs!). Dogs, however, do not have this enzyme, and don't start to digest carbohydrates until they reach the stomach, with most of the digestive functions taking place in the small intestine after passing through the stomach. The high percentage of carbohydrate in most dry dog food kibble leads to situations where the food stays in the system longer (8-12 hours) - if you've ever witnessed a dog or cat barfing up their kibble meal up to 12 hours hours after eating it, you would have likely noticed it was mostly whole and undigested! The kibble sits in their systems way too long, which is one of the reasons you should not feed raw meat mixed into kibble in the same meal. Because a raw or meat-based diet is protein-based (not carb-based), digestion occurs much faster (4-6 hours), limiting the time that any possible bacteria may be able to grow in the dog's system. If you are deciding to feed your pet the healthiest way, it should be meat only, without the kibble at all.

Ultimate Healthy Pets believes in natural feeding regimes for all pets, from house cats to working dogs, competition/sport animals, and therapy pets. Meat-based feeding is far more healthy and natural than dry over-processed kibble.
